GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Police Cadet provides administrative support to the Benton Police Department and participates in training programs that introduce the individual to the fundamentals of law enforcement and prepare them to become a Police Officer.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Provides assistance and performs a variety of tasks in support of Police Department programs and public awareness;
  • May assist sworn personnel with fundamental, non-hazardous fieldwork;
  • May take minor complaints such as minor theft and minor criminal mischief in person or over the phone;
  • May testify in court as necessary;
  • Assists in collecting and preparing equipment and materials;
  • Sets up equipment as needed;
  • Performs basic office support work such as filing and typing;
  • Provides routine or procedural information;
  • Directs people to appropriate personnel;
  • Answers the telephone, takes messages or route calls to appropriate personnel;
  • Assists with coordinating the maintenance and/or repair of Department vehicles;
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • Must be at least 18years old;
  • Must either be a U.S. Citizen or have authorization to work in the United States;
  • Ability to learn and follow Police Department rules, policies, and procedures;
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to maintain accurate records;
  • Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public, City staff, and co-workers;
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
